TriCity Education’s Family Program:
It has been well documented that addiction is a devastating and chronic problem in our society. Presently, there are a multiplicity of strategies to address the problem of addiction ranging from twelve step groups, to private counselling, to day and evening programs, and residential treatment programs. Over the years however, our organization became inundated with requests from clients to assist family units as a whole as there was a glaring vacuum in the delivery of substance abuse programs; there is a lack of resources available for family systems to receive assistance when a family member is addressing his/her problematic substance use.
Two years ago Billy enrolled in a Master’s Degree Program and for his major Thesis he created a Program that was available to family members of individuals receiving treatment for their chemical dependency issues. Billy’s Thesis asked the question: What would be the impact of a Family Program on clients and their families? Empirical data gathered from the Family Program proved that the Program did indeed provide invaluable assistance to the family unit as a whole, and helped promote family wellness.
